Industrial Economics
As the name indicates, Industrial Economics is an area of economics which examines impacts of targeted economic policy interventions as well as random effects of the economic environment on the behavior of firms and industries. A common feature of these industries is that that the firms of these industries operate in imperfectly competitive markets, which results in intriguing strategic interactions.
At the department, the industrial economic research focuses primarily on small and local markets, which were or still are regulated to an extent. Prime examples include health market professions, retail pharmacies and selected services provided by local specialists. We are particularly interested in the possibility of entries of new players into these markets and intensity of competition.
