Abstract

We measure eco-efficiency of an economy by means of an augmented Leontief input-output model extended by constraints for primary inputs. Using a multi-objective optimization model the eco-efficiency frontier of the economy is generated. The results of these multi-objective optimization problems define eco-efficient virtual decision making units (DMUs). The eco-efficiency is obtained as a solution of a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model with virtual DMUs defining the potential and a DMU describing the actual performance of the economy. In this paper the procedure is extended to an intertemporal approach in the spirit of the Luenberger productivity indicator. This indicator permits decomposing eco-productivity change into eco-efficiency change and eco-technical change. The indicator is then further decompounded in a way that enables us to examine the contributions of individual production factors, undesirable as well as desirable outputs to eco-productivity change over time. For illustration purposes the proposed model is applied to investigate eco-productivity growth of the Austrian economy.

Abstract

The present paper provides first empirical evidence on the effects of entry on market conduct for a transition economy. We estimate size thresholds required to support different numbers of firms for seven retail and professional service industries in a large number of distinct geographic markets in Slovakia. Our results suggest a differential impact of entry on market conduct: while market conduct is unaffected by entry in the north-western parts of Slovakia, competition tends to kick in slowly in most professions in the south-east. This latter region suffers from infrastructure bottlenecks and competitors require a larger increase in the number of customers to come in.

Abstract

Recent discussions on the definition of growth in terms of welfare beyond GDP suggest that it is of urgent need to develop new approaches for measuring the economic performance of the firms and national economies. The new concepts should take into account simultaneously economic as well as social and environmental goals. We first discuss several approaches to productivity measures. Then we extend the Data Envelopment Analysis models for environment to measure the so called eco-efficiency and for social indicators to take into account the social performance. For an illustration, we perform the analysis of 30 European countries in the year 2010. In the last section we discuss the possibilities of inter-temporal analysis of proposed models and of their use in ex-ante evaluation of different policy scenarios.

Abstract

Neoclassical growth accounting is a methodology used to measure the contribution of different production factors to economic growth and to indirectly compute the rate of technological progress. This model assumes constant returns to scale and perfectly competitive factor markets, which implies that factor prices are equal to marginal products – something that is only satisfied if factor markets are cleared, and external effects and distortions are absent. However, these conditions are usually not satisfied in real economies. Moreover, growth accounting assumes efficiency on factor and commodity markets, and consequently does not distinguish between efficiency change and technical change. In this paper, we estimate total factor productivity growth without recourse to data on factor input shares or prices. In the proposed model, the economy is represented by the Leontief input-output model, which is extended by the constraints of primary inputs. A Luenberger productivity indicator is proposed to estimate productivity change over time; this is then decomposed in a way that enables us to examine the contributions of individual production factors and individual outputs to productivity change. The results allow the inference of which inputs or outputs of an economy are the drivers of the overall productivity change– this is then decomposed into efficiency change and technical change components. Using input-output tables of the US economy for the period 1977 to 2006, we show that technical progress is the main source of productivity change. Technical progress, in turn, is mostly driven by capital whereas low-skilled labor contributes negatively.

 V súčasnosti Kompetenčné centrum ako nástupnícka organizačná jednotka katedry stavia na výstupoch tohto projektu a ponúka kurzy pedagogického vzdelávania a workshopy profesijného rozvoja pre interných doktorandov a odborných asistentov podľa vzoru vybraných renomovaných zahraničných univerzít.

V ponuke sú tieto dva ucelené kurzy:

a) Úvod do vyučovania a učenia sa na vysokej škole (kurz je určený pre in­terných doktorandov, najmä v prvom ročníku štúdia) ­– v tomto kurze sa interní doktorandi ako budúci vysokoškolskí učitelia dostávajú do kontaktu s pedagogickou teóriou po prvýkrát, a zároveň vstupujú prvý raz do učební medzi študentov. Ide o ucelený pohľad na vzájomne prepojené činnosti učiteľa a študentov na vysokej škole: vyučovanie a učenie sa. Úspešní absolventi kurzu získajú komplexnú predstavu o vyučovacom procese na vysokých školách a jeho hlavných prvkoch s dôrazom na to, ako vplývajú na učenie sa študentov;

b) Rozvoj pedagogických zručností na podporu učenia sa študentov (voľne nadväzujúci kurz určený pre lektorov, asistentov a odborných asistentov) – východiskom na dizajn kurikula bol predpoklad, že každý účastník už má určitú skúsenosť s výučbou na vysokej škole, ktorú získal v prvých rokoch práce na vysokej škole ako interný doktorand, lektor či (odborný) asistent. Hlavným cieľom kurzu je rozvoj vybraných pedagogických kompetencií, ktoré majú kľúčový dosah na učenie sa študentov. Dôraz sa kladie na využitie skúseností účastníkov kurzu z vlastnej výučby a aplikáciu rozširujúcich poznatkov na vyučovací proces vo vlastných vyučovacích predmetoch a pri práci s konkrétnymi študentmi jednotlivých účastníkov.

Tematické zameranie jednorazových workshopov pre skúsených učiteľov fakulty sa prispôsobuje ich aktuálnym potrebám a požiadavkám vedenia fakulty.

Rozširujúce štúdium na vyučovanie administratívy a korešpondencie

Kompetenčné centrum Národohospodárskej fakulty Ekonomickej univerzity v Bratislave poskytuje rozširujúce štúdium na vyučovanie administratívy a korešpondencie (ďalej len RŠ) podľa § 1 ods. 1 písm. a) vyhlášky Ministerstva školstva, vedy, výskumu a športu SR č. 173/2023 Z. z. o kvalifikačných predpokladoch pedagogických zamestnancov a odborných zamestnancov.

RŠ sa realizuje externou formou a umožňuje rozšírenie odbornej a pedagogickej spôsobilosti na výchovno-vzdelávaciu činnosť v predmete administratíva a korešpondencia (ďalej ADK).

Podmienkou zaradenia záujemcu do kurzu RŠ je ukončený 2. stupeň vysokoškolského vzdelania, prípadne aj absolvovanie doplňujúceho pedagogického štúdia, ak je 2. stupeň VŠ absolvovaný v neučiteľskom študijnom odbore. Záujemcovia s neekonomickým vysokoškolským vzdelaním sú povinní zvládnuť diferenčnú skúšku z ekonómie (zo základov všeobecnej ekonomickej teórie  a podnikovej ekonomiky), ktorá sa vykonáva v priebehu štúdia.

RŠ v rozsahu 200 hodín trvá 2 semestre a uskutočňuje sa prevažne online vo forme dvojdňových konzultácií, ktoré sú priemerne 1-2-krát v mesiaci (zvyčajne v piatok popoludní a v sobotu). Realizuje sa podľa schváleného učebného plánu a končí sa záverečnou skúškou z didaktiky administratívy a korešpondencie a z obhajoby záverečnej didakticko-odbornej práce v rozsahu 35 – 50 strán.

Absolventi RŠ získajú vysvedčenie o nadobudnutí pedagogickej spôsobilosti vyučovať predmet administratíva a korešpondencia na stredných školách.

Poplatok za štúdium je vo výške 450,– € za jeden semester.

Uchádzačov o štúdium zaraďujeme do kurzu na nasledujúci akademický rok každoročne zvyčajne v máji, pričom pri výbere zohľadňujeme dátum podania prihlášky, ako aj skutočnosť, či už vyučujú, resp. majú bezprostredne začať vyučovať predmet ADK.

Department of Pedagogy (DP) was established at the University of Economics in July 1961. The establishment of this department resulted from the need of preparing graduates economists, who could teach economic subjects in secondary schools after their graduation. DP was established by prof. Ing. Ondrej Peter, CSc. a PhDr. Hellady Klasová, CSc. 

The Department of Pedagogy in the early years of its existence worked 3 – 4 internal teachers, therefore, the preparation of future teachers of economic subjects in a separate study program did not begin immediately, but only in the additional pedagogical study in external form.

Study of teaching economic subjects in study program began in 1966/1967. 
Since the academic year 2005/2006, DP has organized in the following forms of study:

• Bachelor’s study: Teachers education of practical economic subjects
• Master´s study: Teachers education of specialized economic subjects
• Doctoral study: Theory of economic education

At present, DP realizes study of teacher of economic subjects in accordance with Directive of the Ministry of Education no. 581/2007 Z. z. about additional pedagogical study for full-time students of all faculties of the University of Economics in Bratislava and part-time for economic graduates with university education who teach or want to teach in secondary schools and have no pedagogical qualifications. 

In addition, the Department of Pedagogy realizes extended course for teachers of administration and correspondence. 
DP has educated in all forms of study more than 2300 teachers of economic subjects for all types of secondary schools, where the economic subjects are taught. 
Department has realized also educational, psychological and didactic training for young beginning teachers of all faculties of the University of Economics in Bratislava called "Pedagogical minimum." 

Teachers of the department are significantly involved in the creation of the curricula for secondary schools, especially for business academies in SR. DP also cooperates with the National Institute of Vocational Education, with scientific research institutes and economic praxis in Slovakia. Especially with Departments of Pedagogy of another universities and regional methodical pedagogical centers in Slovakia. DP cooperate also with four secondary schools called faculty training schools. There work 13 teachers as external collaborates.

In the last decade, department has solved six research projects, including 1 VEGA, 4 KEGA projects and one ESF project. Research projects have focused on the process of globalization and sustainable development as an integral part of education, on innovation of the curricula and textbooks for secondary schools. Also to implement the requirements of the regional labor market in economic education, support to business thinking in the education, including the promotion of financial literacy for secondary school students . 

Outcomes and refereed research tasks were presented in a rich publication activity of teachers (6 university textbooks, 15 monographs and more than 20 textbooks for secondary schools and many articles in academic research journals, etc.). 

DP also develops contacts with foreign universities, shares experiences, study visits, exchanges literature and joint research outcomes. 

Department of Pedagogy have also departments or sections for whole university and for Slovak republic. Since 1992 it has provided psychological counseling service, for students of the University of Economics in Bratislava. In 1991, the Center of fictitious firms that were later translated into Slovak Centre for Training Firms was established there. DP provides services of tax office trainer and health insurance trainer for all training firms in secondary schools in Slovakia. 

From 1 February 1998 working with the Department of Pedagogy also the Centre for Drug and consultancy services established in accordance with the National Programme for the Activities against Drugs.

The Department of Pedagogy provides qualified training for teachers of specialized economic subjects for all kinds and types of secondary schools, where economic subjects are taught. The following types of study are currently being carried out:

1. supplementary pedagogical study
   • in internal form (concurrent – for students of Master studies at the UE in Bratislava),
   • in external form (follow-up for graduates of Master study);
2. extending study for administration and correspondence teachers;
3. continuous training of primary and secondary school teachers
   • methodology for making business plans for secondary school pupils- updating education,
   • current issues of teaching specialized economic subjects – updating – preparatory and prior to the 2nd attestation
4. pedagogical education of  university teachers at UE in Bratislava (UE rector´s internal regulation no 3/2014).

In addition to the above-mentioned training activities, the Department provides the following selection courses for individual bachelor study programs at the Faculty of National Economy: a training company (both in Slovak and German), creation of professional work and presentation skills, traineeship in psychology.

Department of Pedagogy at the FNE UE in Bratislava as a successor organization after the abolition of the National Institute of Stenography in Bratislava  carries out national tests in writing on the computer and correspondence, as well as the state testing in master writing on the computer and correspondence. The state exam can be carried out by pupils of secondary schools and higher vocational schools, university students and other candidates.

In its scientific research activity, the Department focuses on pedagogy-psychological and didactic aspects of the educational process at secondary schools and universities. Current research tasks focus on the content and organizational changes of economic school system in terms of the social and ecologically-oriented market economy of the SR, the position of teachers of specialized economic subjects in the process of socio-economic changes in society and the innovation of the education system and further education system of teachers with a focus on teaching economic subjects for secondary schools.
