Kongres ERSA: Regions in Motion – Breaking the Path“.
V dňoch 21. – 25. augusta 2012 organizovala Katedra verejnej správy a regionálneho rozvoja Národohospodárskej fakulty EU v Bratislave a Spoločnosť pre regionálnu vedu a politiku – Slovenská sekcia ERSA „52. Kongres ERSA: Regions in Motion – Breaking the Path“.
Vedeckú časť kongresu zahájila plenárnou prednáškou Ann Markusen, riaditeľka Institute’s Project on Regional and Industrial Economics na Humphrey School of Public Affairs (USA). Vo svojej prednáške na tému „ Beyond export base theory: growth via migration, quality of life, and the local consumption base“ kriticky porovnávala regionálne rozvojové stratégie založené na exportujúcich firmách, lokálnej spotrebe a lokálnej kultúre.
Organizované exkurzie v Bratislave a jej okolí (Volkswagen, Bratislavské mestské lesy, Slovenský Grob, Gabčíkovo) a slávnostná večera v priestoroch Bratislavského hradu s vystúpeniami Lúčnice na záver podčiarkla priateľskú atmosféru mesta, ktorú všetci účastníci kongresu celý čas vyzdvihovali.

Dear Prof. Dr. Rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava,
on behalf of RSAI (the Regional Science Association International), I would like to express all my gratitude to your University for the superb job made in organising the 52th ERSA conference. The event was of a high quality and standard, and it will be remembered as one of the great events organised by our association.
Personally, I would like to thank you for the great honour you did to me, being one of the six professors receiving the recognition of your university. I will keep it as one of my most important professional achievements. Personally, I enjoyed also very much your invitation to the interesting and lovely village in the countryside, and I thank you also for this.
Moreover, it was a personal pleasure to collaborate with Prof. Bucek and his whole team, all people with a deep professional attitude, and human behaviour.
Let me conclude by saying that I am sure all our members will remember your great hospitality during the 4 days' ERSA event in your wonderful town and campus.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you, your university and
the local organizers for organizing this very exciting and stimulating
conference that represents a milestone for the developments of ERSA
activities in Central and Eastern Europe.
The speeches of Premier Fico and Mayor Ftacnik were impressive and
important, and quite in contrast to speeches from politicians given at
earlier meetings.
Thank you so much for this remarkable event.

University of Economics in Bratislava
Dear Professor Sivák,
I want to thank you personally for your sponsorship of the August 2012 European Regional Science Association Congress, held at the University of Economics. I enjoyed being the opening keynote speaker, following the fascinating talk by your Prime Minister about regional development and policy in Slovakia. I found your University facilities wonderful, and I appreciate the excellent arrangements made by Stefan Rehak and his colleagues in the regional science disciplines as the local organizing committee.
As an economist myself, I found it quite wonderful that Bratislava has a University of Economics, and I wish you the best in developing your curricula and training students.
I now know so much more about Bratislava and Slovakia, and enjoyed the extra few days I chose to stay there in advance of the Congress.
Regards,
