Can I also complete a professional internship?
- Any student enrolled in the Applied Economics programme who registers for the 3-credit Professional Internship course during autumn registration or spring pre-registration may complete a professional internship.
When can I complete the internship?
- The course is registered in both semesters. However, this does not mean that you are taking two separate courses. The semester in which you complete the internship will count, and the course registration for the other semester will subsequently be removed from your AIS record.
- You may therefore complete the internship during either the winter or summer semester of the relevant academic year.
What do I need to do to find an internship and have it recognised?
1. If a student finds an internship independently, they must provide the contact person with information about the internship by 31 March of the relevant academic year using the Professional Internship Acceptance Form. The professional internship must be related to the content of the Applied Economics study programme at either the Bachelor's or Master's level. A description of the programme can be found at the bottom of this page. Examples of internships recognised in previous years include: National Bank of Slovakia; Department of Public Administration and Regional Development at the Faculty of Economics and Finance, Bratislava University of Economics and Business; Office of the National Council of the Slovak Republic; VÚB, a.s.; Government Office of the Slovak Republic; Siemens Mobility s.r.o.; KPMG; ČSOB a.s.; SAAIC - Slovak Academic Association for International Cooperation; YIT Slovakia a.s.
2. The Department cooperates with several organisations and institutions that offer professional internships to students and may occasionally be able to facilitate internship placements for selected students. For information about currently available positions, please contact the designated contact person. Available placements typically include analytical units within public administration, such as the Institute for Financial Policy, the Value for Money Unit, the Government Office of the Slovak Republic, the Institute for Environmental Policy, and others depending on available capacity. Participation in this type of internship is conditional on the approval of the host organisation, registration for the Professional Internship course, and successful completion of a selection interview with the designated person at the relevant institution.
3. Researchers and academic staff at the Department of Economic Policy may also occasionally offer internships directly as research assistants. Such work typically involves searching for and processing data, working with academic literature, and performing other tasks required for ongoing research projects. For information about this option, please contact either the designated contact person or a researcher at the Department.
How long must the internship last?
- The student must participate in the professional internship for at least three weeks and complete a minimum of 80 hours.
What do I need to do after completing the professional internship?
- After completing the professional internship, the student must submit the Professional Internship Reportno later than the beginning of the summer examination period.
- The information provided in the report may be verified in consultation with the relevant contact person or supervisor at the internship host organisation.
- The Professional Internship Report is approved by the Department or a person authorised by the Department. If the report does not meet the required standards, the student will be asked to revise or supplement it.
When will I receive the credit?
- If all requirements have been fulfilled, the student will be awarded the credit no later than the end of the examination period in the summer semester.
