University of Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia, is a public research university focused on education and research in the field of Economics and Business with over 80 years of history. Department of Economics as an integral part of the University and of the Faculty of National Economy has been focused on teaching Economics courses at all three levels of university instruction and also on research in Macro, Microeconomics and Methodology of Economics, with special focus on empirical studies related to economies of Central and Eastern European Region. The members of the Department have abundant experience with the implementation of research as well as teaching and development projects at national level and internationally. The Department regularly organizes international scientific conferences, workshops and other academic events. The Department is also active in international cooperation with universities and research institutions in the European Union, but also in other parts of the world.
The Department is currently responsible for two undergraduate study programs: Economic Theory and Economic Journalism and Economics and Law. The later one is carried out as a joint degree program in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Comenius University, Bratislava. At the graduate level, the Department is responsible for two study programs. The program Economic Theory and Economic Journalism is available to students also in the form of a join degree program with International College, National Institute of Development Administration, Bangkok, Thailand. The Master study program Law and Economics is implemented as a joint degree program in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. At the doctoral level, the Department provides the study program Economic Theory, which is offered in both Slovak and English in the full time and part time form.
