For the eighth year in a row, students of the Financial Markets and Investing (II. degree) programme at Faculty of Economics and Finance had the opportunity to measure their acquired knowledge and skills on a global scale at the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) 2024.

Under the expert guidance of Assoc. prof. Ing. Jana Kotlebová, PhD., Assoc. prof. Ing. Petr Árendáš, PhD. and PhD student Ing. Marek Dávid Vateha, who experienced the competition in the past years as a student, from the Department of Banking and International Finance (NHF EUBA) student team composed of Bc. Ema Recká, Bc. Jakub Klein, Bc. Erik Krchnák and Bc. Dominik Kucbel competed at the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto, Canada) on 21-23 February 2024 against 41 other universities from all over the world.

The students scored the second best result ever internationally, finishing in 13th place overall. Our team confirmed its long-standing membership in the top European universities, among which it took 3rd place. The competition was also high this year and we were behind in the overall ranking by renowned universities such as the University of Ottawa (Canada), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), Boston University (USA), University of Sydney (Australia), New York University, and Princeton University (both USA). The overall winners of RITC 2024 were the representatives of Baruch College (USA).

RITC allows participating teams to compete through a trading platform (Rotman Interactive Trader) in a wide range of realistically simulated market scenarios. This year, the organizers prepared 6 challenges and the students experienced first-hand (1) trading in the electricity spot and forward markets, (2) transacting in the oil spot and futures markets, and (3) managing liquidity in the ETF markets, (4) identifying mispriced options, or even how difficult it is to develop automated, algorithmic trading strategies in Python that (5) price stocks via the CAPM model and (6) use arbitrage between stocks and ETF instruments in different currencies.

We are happy to see our university's name slowly establishing itself at the top of the rankings in this competition, and we congratulate the students on their success. We hope that this result will also motivate the students of the lower grades to get involved in the preparation for the next editions of RITC or RETC (European round of the competition). Thank you to our sponsors Tatra banka, a.s., U.P. o.c.p., a.s. and BENCONT GROUP a.s. Special thanks to our graduates (former participants of the competition) Ing. Juraj Dedinský, PhD. and Ing. Mário Zeman for their support.

We would like to thank all competitors and colleagues for successful representation of NHF EUBA and we wish you a lot of success in the next rounds!
