Student of the Faculty of National Economy EUBA, Bc. Dominik Imrich, was the only one from the Slovak Republic karate team to bring home a valuable metal from the Academic World Martial Arts Championships in Turkey.
Dominik gradually defeated all his opponents. In the 1st round he won 1:0 on points against Canada's Shon Zinger, in the 2nd round he defeated Turkey's Muhammed Emin Guntekin 5:0 on points, in the semi-final he won 4:0 on points against Saudi Arabia's Yosof Naith, thus advancing to the finals. In the final, he found his overcomer when, after a very close match that ended 0-0 on points, the judges' verdict awarded Dominic 2nd place, making him the Academic World Karate Vice-Champion.
The 2022 Academic World Martial Arts Championships were held in Samsun, Turkey, from 21 to 30 September 2022. More than 800 representatives from more than 300 universities from 57 countries represented their countries and universities at the event, including the Slovakian team. The ten-day event was the first of its kind for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) as it brought together several sports into one university world event. The event was organized in 6 combat sports. In boxing, karate, Thai boxing, sambo, wrestling and wushu.
We would like to congratulate Dominik on this success and thank him for his successful representation not only of Slovakia but also of the Faculty of National Economy of the University of Economics in Bratislava. We wish him many other sporting achievements.
